RARE FIND ! Will appeal to the traditionalist sailor !!
Alajuela 38 MK 2 long keel bluewater cruising yacht, inspired by the well proven William Aitkins/ Colin Archer traditional heavy weather designs yet easily driven under sail and powered by a Yanmar 50 hp diesel, she easily motors at 6 kts.
Cruised to Australia from the U. S. By her American owners many years ago, Desire has already visited many of the exotic Polynesian islands in the Pacific, Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas islands, Tuamotus, Society Island, Cooks, Niue, Tonga, NZ., Brisbane where Desire was sold. Her cutter rig provides numerous options for ocean sailing and the Monitor Self Steering wind vane steers her effortlessly, when you are down below sleeping or resting.
The king size owner's V- berth cabin forward is very comfortable at anchor and there are two single berths with lee cloths in the saloon to use when under sail.
The u- shaped galley to starboard is well equipped with twin stainless steel sinks with pressure water, gimballed Force 10 three burner gas stove and oven, heaps of storage drawers and top loading refrigeration.
The nav station to port aft faces outboard and can take half an admiralty hard copy chart but mainly serves as extra galley bench top space at anchor as there is a chart plotter with C-map charts of the Pacific.
The saloon is spacious with seating for six on the two convertible berths. There is a drop down table for mealtimes.
For cold weather, there is a diesel heater on the main bulkhead... Tasmania cruising anyone?
There is a enclosed bathroom forward to starboard with toilet and shower and a large hanging and shelf locker opposite.
Beautiful traditional lines, Desire has just been hauled out and antifouled, brand new laminated tiller, brand new running rigging, standing rigging replaced 2019.
