Escape - Circumnavigated from UK to Australia | Prout Event 34 | Bluewater Ready
Built for adventure and ready for the next passage!
Escape is a 1991 Prout Event 34 catamaran (#14 build), originally constructed in England under the supervision of RYA surveyor Alan Hill. Purpose-built for sail training, she was crafted to meet the UK's rigorous codes of practice, featuring:
- Firewall between engine and fuel tank
- Bolted bulkhead bonding at 6" intervals
- Fitted jackstays for safety
From her early days training sailors on the UK East Coast, Escape embarked on a slow circumnavigation in 1992, operating as Prout Leisure in the Mediterranean and Caribbean. Though used for training, she was always owner-skippered and professionally maintained.
In 1994, she transited the Panama Canal and crossed the Pacific, arriving in New Zealand in November. Since then, she's cruised the waters of New Zealand, Australia, and the Western South Pacific as a private vessel.
Escape is fully tax-paid in the UK (VAT), Australia, and New Zealand (GST and duty), allowing her to remain in these regions indefinitely without further import costs.
Current Ownership & Voyages:
Purchased in 2019 by her third and current owner for long-term family cruising, plans were paused due to COVID. Now, with changing needs, Escape is ready for her next adventure.
Recent voyages include:
1. Lakes Entrance (VIC) to Eden (NSW)
2. Sydney return for New Year's Eve
3. Eden to Brisbane in 2025
4. Before the Brisbane trip, a mini refit was completed:
- New furler and forestay
- New fridge
- New start and house batteries
- 3000W inverter installed
Interior Comfort & Layout:
This is the much sought-after open-plan layout. Escape features a nicely appointed interior with warm cherry timber finishes and LED lighting throughout.
The starboard hull features:
- A comfortable double stateroom aft
- A long, functional galley amidships
- A large single or cozy double stateroom forward with shelving and storage
The port hull includes:
- A spacious double stateroom aft
- A nav station with extendable chart table and navigator's chair amidships
- A large head and shower compartment forward
The bridgedeck saloon is nicely appointed, open and airy, with seating for up to 12 around a large dining table, this can become two single berths or one double berth-perfect for entertaining or relaxing after a day at sea.
Sailing Performance & Advantages
- Escape features a well-proven mast-aft configuration, making her exceptionally easy to handle. With a large, easily furled headsail and a small, easily reefed mainsail, she is safe and simple to sail single-handed or with a small crew.
She offers many practical advantages:
- Easy to sail and handle
- Can fit into a 12m monohull berth--saving on berthing costs
- Can sport two trolling lines without fouling each other
- Can dry out on the beach for cleaning or recreation
- Shallow draft allows anchoring inshore, away from crowded anchorages
- Very comfortable motion in rough seas
Escape is a proven bluewater cruiser with a rich history and solid bones.
Whether you're dreaming of coastal cruising or offshore passages, Escape is ready to take you there in comfort and style--at a price that won't last long. Enquire now with Damien McDonald on 0402 005 000 and start your next passage planning and adventure!
