Q2 "Quixotic 2" (previous name: "Just in Time") was designed by Angelo Lavranos (St. Francis 50, Knysa 50) and Alan Wright (legendary kiwi yacht designer). The two leveraged their strengths together and the result was gorgeous lines (rare for a catamaran!), impressive strength yet relatively lightweight, a good turn of speed and performance and practical liveability. She is faster than a production condo cat, stronger, lighter, and better looking. She is constantly complimented on her lines everywhere she goes. Well done gents.
She was built as hull number three of an attempted production run by Catamarans New Zealand. That means that most of her decks, cabin, hulls and interior was done in mold (Impact Fibreglass Tauranga). She has excellent molded in non skid on her decks and ample thickness in her gel coat for many years of cutting and polishing to come. She has vinylester outer skin hulls and polyester elsewhere with high density closed cell foam core hulls, decks and bulkheads (no worries about leaks or rot!). She has Kevlar in her bows in the main bow crash compartments and in front and the bottom of her keels (for when you take the beach for those free haul outs!). Carbon fiber reinforcements in high load areas around main chain plates and winches.
Adding to her safety are the separate watertight compartments. She has two forward sealed crash compartments in each hull. Continuing aft we have the main cabin with a 4,000lph bilge pump. Then the engine compartments under the aft queen beds with another 4,000lph bilge pump. Then all the way aft we have another separate compartment for the rudder with yet another dedicated bilge pump. Five separate compartments in each hull. Foam-filled keel with Kevlar armour.
