Alexander Marine are delighted to present the concourse condition 1971 Feadship 85ft motor yacht 'Kapal' to the market as worldwide central agents.
She is a balance of old-world charm and comfort, with the necessary but discreet technology upgrades throughout the yacht to provide her guests with safe, reliable and enjoyable cruising wherever she may roam.
'Kapal' represents a rare opportunity to acquire a superbly presented, maintained and upgraded classic steel motor yacht from one of the world's most prestigious superyacht builders. Her timeless lines are easy on the eye and upon spending time onboard 'Kapal' you will learn she is a high volume and immensely capable full-displacement motor yacht perfectly adapted to long-range cruising - around Australia or beyond.
'Kapal' has enjoyed constant attention from her various custodians and has undergone significant further upgrades by her current owner - including down to the smallest of details like intricate chrome plating works. Big ticket items include fresh paint to the entirety of the yacht (from the keel up to the mast), fresh brightwork, and the adoption of the latest technologies including lithium house power, Furuno navigation equipment, and a Heos entertainment package.
At the heart of the vessel is 'Kapal's' spacious engine room which is now equipped with modern low hour Cummins QSM11 main engines, low hour Twin Cummins Onan generators, and electrical distribution systems consistent with what you would see in a new build yacht. These important engineering updates will see her plying the ocean for many decades to come courtesy of this significant previous investment.
Entry up onto the spacious weather protected cockpit is via a teak treaded staircase from the hydraulic teak laid hi/lo swim platform, or from side access gates onto both port and starboard side decks (to which a set of teak collapsible boarding stairs can be attached). If boarding via the swim platform you will observe the S/S safety rails that enclose the entire swim platform, onto which an electric BBQ may be mounted for cooking al fresco. After swimming, you can easily rinse off from the discrete transom located on the rear platform. The hi/lo swim platform is one of various locations where a tender or jet ski can be stowed onboard 'Kapal'.
Up in the teak laid cockpit, a bench seat with new upholstery is installed across the stern. A static circular table in the middle of the cockpit complements the aft bench seating. The entire cockpit is protected from the elements by the overhead boat deck hardtop combined with three-sided Sunbrella enclosures. Cockpit wing doors are installed on each side deck and can be closed to stop wind and rain from entering the cockpit area. Upon taking a seat in the cockpit you will be immersed in the unmistakable refinement and tradition that 'Kapal' offers.
Venturing forward the wide teak laid side decks are complemented by immaculate varnished teak capped high bulwarks to provide peace of mind for young and old shipmates as they move around the vessel. The teak laid foredeck features a centreline forward-facing bench seat with new upholstery - a perfect spot from which to enjoy a sundowner. Her tough "ship-like" anchoring equipment dominates the very pointy end of the foredeck - dual vertical windlasses are connected to a sizable chain and a pair of new Mason stainless steel kedge anchors nest into the custom-made bow stainless steel anchor fascia. The anchoring equipment is all heavy-duty stuff! The chrome plated ships bell on the foredeck is a sign you are onboard a serious vessel.
Entering the saloon is via dual gloss timber-framed glass doors - secondary access to her saloon is made possible via a door at the front of the saloon accessed from the starboard side deck. Her satin teak interior timber finishes and custom furniture are both attractive and timeless. Her white saloon ceiling, complete with detailed moulding is exquisite. The quality of her joinery throughout the boat is to a very high standard and reflects her superyacht build quality. Large glass saloon glazing provides natural light into her interior with selected drop-down windows (a very cool feature!) allowing for cross ventilation. Off the starboard side of the saloon, you will find the entertainment cabinet featuring a Hi/Lo 43" Samsung Frame TV and the staircase down to the aft lower deck guest accommodation. To port, there is a leather three-seater couch accompanied by two upholstered armchairs. The forward saloon bulkhead houses a wet bar with under-bench refrigeration, an ice-maker and overhead cabinetry.
A day head is positioned immediately forward of the saloon via a starboard side companionway that leads forward to the pilothouse, galley, forward crew cabin access and the snug room. The spacious and well-equipped raised pilothouse offers excellent visibility and is configured as a closed bulkhead arrangement, so 'Kapal' can steam 24/7 while the crew and guests can maintain normal use of the galley and saloon without distracting the skipper!! Her new Furuno navigation equipment includes quad 19" Hatteland glass bridge screens, two Furuno radars, FLIR night vision camera & even a Furuno periscope sonar! Overseeing the yacht's controls are two Stidd helm seats that are both comfortable and fully adjustable. Guests can enjoy a bird's eye view of the passage from the elevated bench seat behind the dual helm chairs. Dual pilothouse doors provide ease of access out onto each side deck and offer lots of natural ventilation (otherwise please note 'Kapal' is completely air-conditioned should that be your preference).
Docking 'Kapal' is assisted by hydraulic bow and stern thrusters and a wired docking remote. Like most full-displacement vessels she is very well mannered when docking - a combination of her substantial weight and full keel. Vision from the side decks when docking (especially when using the remote) is excellent. She can therefore be managed by a passionate boating couple.
The commercial-style galley is forward of the pilothouse. It is spacious and well-equipped featuring stainless steel benchtops, an upright full-height fridge/freezer, insinkerator, Miele appliances and lots of cupboard storage.
Forward of the galley, 'Kapal' boasts a spacious snug room complete with a custom-made sofa, comfortable bean bag, a large 65" Samsung Frame TV and plenty of storage cabinetry. This room features large glazed windows on both port and starboard offering plenty of natural light and cross ventilation thanks to selected drop-down windows. Sufficiently distanced from the saloon and guest accommodation this is the perfect place to enjoy some peace and privacy.
Accommodation onboard 'Kapal' is segregated into two zones - the bow and stern as separated by the engine room - providing maximum separation and privacy. 'Kapal' offers three guest cabins aft each with its own ensuite and separate shower stall. Down onto the guest accommodation foyer landing to starboard (towards the bow), you will find the master cabin. To port (towards the stern), there are two guest cabins aft. The full-beam master features a king-size island bed with a new mattress, port & starboard full-height robes, custom leather chaise lounge, 55" Samsung Frame TV and a spacious ensuite. The guest cabins feature twin single side-by-side beds both fitted with new bedding and ample storage. Her bathrooms throughout feature timber floors, tiled shower recesses and Corian benchtops - the build quality and high-end finishes are easy to see. All aft accommodation cabins and ensuites feature generous freshly re-chromed portholes for light and ventilation with heavy duty S/S storm covers that can be dogged shut when crossing oceans.
Access down to the bow crew accommodation and engine room is via a staircase forward of the galley - note engine room access is also possible via the bosuns locker off the port side deck. The recently refitted crew area features two crew cabins and plenty of natural light and ventilation courtesy of an overhead hatch (which also doubles as an emergency exit) and portholes in the hull sides. The dedicated Captain's cabin features a king single bed, with private access to the shared head, plus an additional overhead bunk. Up forward a total of four additional vee berths are available to accommodate additional crew. A spacious head and separate shower stall service the entire bow accommodation/crew's quarters. Off-watch crew can enjoy the generous U-shaped dinette, crew kitchenette, a walk-in pantry, a Panasonic microwave and a 50" Samsung Frame TV. The ship's laundry is found in this area including separate Miele washing and clothes drying machines. An owner-operator could easily use this area for overflow accommodation - teenagers would love being away from their parents up here in the bow.
Entry to the full height stand-up engine room is accessed via a substantial watertight door accessed from the bow accommodation/crew area, or as previously mentioned also off the port side deck. The main engines and both generators were installed new in 2014. The engine room is well laid out and features a matching set of Onan generators positioned outboard of the main engines. Two ever-reliable late model low hour Cummins QSM-11s are spaced well apart to permit serviceable access to all major components. Other notable equipment includes access to her Naiad stabiliser heads, air conditioning equipment, significant Victron inverter/charger hardware to harness the full capacity of the 45kw Lithium battery bank, water maker, supersize fire suppression bottle (it's clear Feadship build big boats as you look at the engine room installation onboard 'Kapal'!), fuel transfer pump and fuel distribution manifold and lastly a modern tank monitoring system. In summary, her engineering and systems are to a very high standard, are easily serviceable, and should give her next owner great confidence in steaming off to remote locations.
The huge upper deck is accessed via a staircase to port from the pilothouse. This area houses her generous Boston Whaler tender, a 3-seater Jet Ski, and some kayaks - all of which are lashed to the vessel via custom made S/S cradles and each have tailor made Sunbrella covers. The tender & jet ski are launched and retrieved via a recently upgraded ADC 750kg davit. Keep in mind also the flexibility to use the hi/lo platform for toy storage.
'Kapal' is equipped with an extensive range of spares in preparation for her to undertake a remote passage at short notice. This includes for example she carries a spare set of propellors onboard!
'Kapal' will become your desired home away from home. Whether it be Sydney Harbour, the Kimberley's or out across the vast Pacific Ocean, 'Kapal' will take her new owner to whatever location they desire in comfort, safety and style. She is smooth, quiet and fuel-efficient underway.
You are invited to book a private inspection to view this vessel. If you are unable to travel to inspect this vessel, we would be pleased to offer you a personal guided video tour via telephone with one of our yacht consultants.
Lying: Hamilton Island, Queensland.
