M/V Prohibition was designed and built by David Jones of Triabunna Tasmania and launched in 1982. She was originally designed as a work boat; she is 35 foot long has a 12 foot beam and 5 foot draft Constructed from 1.5 Inch Celery Top hull and deck over hardwood keel ribs and stringers. She is very heavily built weighing 14 tonnes.
In 1998 she was delivered her from Hobart directly to Lord Howe Island, where her ex custodian used her in a work configuration for the next 6 years between Lord Howe coastal activities and passages to Middleton and Elizabeth Reefs.
In 2004 she was delivered to Port Macquarie where Shipwright Ray Barth gave her a complete conversion refit with a total estimate of $200.000. She was stripped back to bare hull, deck wheelhouse and wet well removed. All materials used were are at the highest of quality such as Huon Kauri and Merbau timbers.
From her re-fit she achieved a larger aft wheelhouse and changed the trunk cabin to have more of a motor cruiser feel, also created more space to allow the creation of a large V berth forward capable for a comfortable day bed or sleeping quarters with a single settee berth in the main saloon. The newly created Galley area was fitted out with a 2-gas burner stove and Oven. She also comes fitted a 24-volt eutectic fridge/icebox and a stainless-steel sink for your needs. She holds plenty of cupboard storage along with electric Jabsco toilet and hand basin. Her tanks allow 120 litres of freshwater storage.
She was fitted with 6LXB Gardner 127 HP diesel engine in 2007, which were re-built in the UK then purchased from JL Diesel in Tweed Heads. Her engine is coupled to a Dong industrial DMT 100A gearbox fitted with new Props and Prop shafts. With 1500 litres of Diesel in 3 different alloy tanks gives her a comfortable 1200 NM cruising rage at 8 knots or 1300 NM at 6 knots. She currently has 1138 hours on the clock.
Whilst she was built to survey originally she is currently not in survey.
